Dim sum, whose name literally means "to dot the heart," is a light dish eaten around breakfast or lunch in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Dimtao, a dim sum specialty restaurant, opened in December 2019 when Cho Hyun-wook, who had a keen interest in the food service industry, joined forces with Chef Jung Ho-kyun, who created F&B brands such as the rice noodle restaurant 'Pho Boo,' the Western restaurant 'Le Jiu,' and 'Signature Lab.' To recreate the authentic taste of Hong Kong, they invited a chef with 25 years of experience and use all recipes brought directly from Hong Kong. One of the charms of Dimtao dim sum is the texture of its thin yet chewy starch wrapper. The sticky wrapper tightly encases the filling and broth, causing a rich aroma and intense flavor to spread the moment you take a bite. The most popular dim sum dishes are the shrimp har gow and the chive and shrimp dumplings, which pair well with the mild flavor of the cucumber pickles served as a standard side dish. The deep-fried eggplant, made by frying whole shrimp batter and stuffing it between slices to drizzle with a soy-based sauce, is also a must-have item on every table. The Char Siu Bao Bun, featuring warm meat inside a soft bun, and the Wonton Noodles, flavored with chicken broth, are excellent choices for a hearty meal. Beyond the food, CEO Cho Hyun-wook personally oversaw the interior design—from landscaping to painting—to recreate the authentic atmosphere of Hong Kong and convey the feeling of a cozy home. Aside from the flagship store in Haeundae, Dimtao can be found in Gyeongju, Changwon, Incheon, Hanam, and Uijeongbu, as well as in department stores across the country.
