Misun | Hello. I am Kim Misun, working at the infant rest room on the 5th floor of The Hyundai Seoul. I have been meeting parents and children here for four years.

Q. What kind of place is the infant rest room?

Misun | This is a space shared by parents and babies under 36 months old. It is a place where you can breastfeed, feed solid foods, and change diapers. In addition to amenities, we also have items such as diapers, bibs, baby spoons, and strollers available. If you happen to forget to bring something or need more, please let us know, and we will provide them for free. Surprisingly, quite a few people come here specifically because they know about this service.

Q. I heard that there are a lot of users.

Misun | On weekends, there are so many strollers parked in front of the lounge that it fills the entire area. As you know, The Hyundai Seoul is not just a place for shopping; many people come to visit for leisure. Because there are so many family visitors, there is sometimes a waiting line for the nursing room or the baby food area.

Q. You must pay a lot of attention to hygiene management. How do you manage it?

Misun | Since this is a space used by babies, this is the aspect I pay the most attention to. We clean and disinfect immediately after customers leave, and we also disinfect every corner of the space after closing time. We inspect the area again before opening the store and undergo thorough hygiene inspections every month.

Q. Do you have any memorable customers from working here for a long time?

Misun: There really are a lot. There are kids who use the cultural center on the 6th floor, and since we see the friends who attend for anywhere from a few months to several years, we memorize their names and become close. As a result, there are some who move away but come back to visit, saying, "I came because I missed you, teacher." At those moments, I really feel like we are family.

I believe it is difficult to work for a long time without a genuine love for children. Parents raising children are often exhausted, too. So, I try to empathize with them first, just as I would with my own daughter and son. I say things like, "It must be really tough." There are many people who feel relieved by just those simple words.

Q. Lastly, please say a few words to the users.

Misun | Since this is a shared space, I would be really grateful if you could tidy up a little after you use the area so that the next family can use it comfortably. If we all show a little consideration for one another, it will become an even better space. (Laughs) We will also do our best to make it a more comfortable place.
